Overview

Everything you need to get started learning NLP – at your own time, at your own pace

This pack includes some basics of NLP that you can use for yourself, videos of demonstrations of more advanced NLP techniques and useful information about why and how you might learn more.  There are also some Case Studies and a list of recommended books.

This is for you if you want to find out more about NLP, learn some specific techniques that you can experiment with for yourself and get your questions answered about the route to mastering more than the basics.

The NLP Starter Pack is in six sections:

  1. What is NLP and how is it useful?
  2. The Brilliant Minds NLP Language and Communication Model – how our minds work
  3. NLP Basics – new ideas and skills for you
  4. NLP Practitioner training – what you might need to know
  5. Case Studies – how other people and companies got results with NLP
  6. Further resources

Each section offers something different and is made up of a number of modules. You can choose what’s most useful for you, what’s most interesting right now, and start there.  In total there are:

  • 22 videos
  • 2 audios
  • The entire ‘Your Brilliant Mind’ programme including the free coaching session
  • A 29-page e-book
  • One module from the ‘Use Your NLP’ programme
  • Answers to your questions and narrative to guide you through the sections
  • Did I mention the free coaching session?

Here’s a bit more about what’s in each section:

  1. What is NLP and how is it useful?

What is NLP? – this module includes an explanation you read, plus two videos.  One video answers the question, ‘What is NLP?’

It’s a good place to start if you have no prior knowledge and you want a definition of NLP plus an explanation of what it means.

The other video puts NLP in context with Psychology and Neuroscience.  You’ll find this useful if you want the bigger picture and an explanation of how NLP, Neuroscience and Psychology relate to each other.

  1. The Brilliant Minds NLP Language and Communication Model – how our minds work

This section is a complete programme in itself, known as ‘Your Brilliant Mind’.  It’s an in-depth look at our Language and Communication Model, which maps out how our minds process information and arrive at a perception of events.  It’s a good place to start learning NLP and I nearly always include it in the first day of any training programme about NLP.  Some of my team have heard me teach it dozens of times and say they still make new connections and gain new insights each time.

There are eight modules in this section.  They include a look at Beliefs and Values, the Conscious and Unconscious aspects of our minds, how language filters our experience and the connections between Thinking, Feeling and our Physiology.

Each module involves a video of no more than ten minutes plus some questions.  Some of the questions are there for you to test your understanding of what you heard on the video.  Some questions are simply for reflection as you work out how the insights from the video are relevant to you.

  1. NLP Basics – new ideas and skills for you

This section includes elements of NLP that I usually include at the beginning of a Practitioner training and sometimes in a short introductory programme.

Here you will find a video about Neuro-logical levels, an explanation of the significance of Structure over Content, my favourite problem-solving model and a comprehensive e-book about the Presuppositions of NLP.

I’ve also included a module from the ‘Use Your NLP’ programme.  It’s about ‘Well-formed Outcomes’.  The Well-formed Outcomes pattern is a process for organising your thoughts about your goals, objectives and target in a way that makes it easier to achieve them.  I regard this pattern as the most useful NLP in the canon.  You can transform your whole life with diligent application of this one technique.

  1. NLP Practitioner training – what you might need to know

I’ve assumed that if you’ve worked through even half of the material above, you’ve got more than a passing interest in NLP.

This section is aimed at answering your questions about learning NLP and I’ve focused on Practitioner level as the first stage of certification.

The videos in this section address questions like, ‘Who is NLP Practitioner training for?’ and ‘Why are NLP programmes different from each other?’  Also in this section I’ve given an overview of what you learn in the Practitioner programme and there are some videos of me demonstrating some of the NLP techniques so you can see exactly the kind of thing you’ll be learning.

If you already know that you don’t want to do the Practitioner training you can skip this section, but you might want to have a quick look at the demonstration videos if you’re till curious about the techniques for changing patterns of behaviour.

This section finishes up with some testimonials and a video called, ‘The Truth about NLP Practitioner Training’.

  1. Case Studies – how other people and companies got results with NLP

Some people like to hear about the ways other people have solved their problems so I’ve included Case Studies for you if that appeals to you.

In this section there is a video in which I tell the story of one particular client and how he achieved career success.  This came as a consequence of undertaking a programme of NLP-based coaching with me, resolving a long-standing issue and replacing some bad habits with new ways of approaching everyday business situations.

There are also some overviews of success stories from Executive Coaching clients and links to read in-depth case studies of how we’ve used NLP to solve business problems.

  1. Further resources

If you like to read, you might like to know that there’s a list of recommended books in this section.  Having said that, the important thing to bear in mind is that NLP is a set of practical skills.   That makes it difficult to learn from books.  Imagine you wanted to learn to play a new sport or a musical instrument.  Understanding the theory is one thing, but if you want to be able to do it well, you need to practice.  NLP is similar, it’s not about knowledge, it’s about skill and it’s easiest for most people to learn from someone who already has the skills.

Even a 1-day course will bring some of the basics to life for most learners.   That will make the books more accessible and if you have someone to practice with then you can probably achieve quite a bit without actually attending any more training.

The final piece of this Starter Pack is – if you want it – a live one-to-one session with me.  It’s an opportunity for you to ask me your questions, to give me feedback about the Starter Pack and also to experience a little NLP coaching first-hand.  You just need to email my PA, Sharon Smith and she’ll book you a slot in my calendar.

Perhaps I should say that I usually charge in excess of £250 for a private coaching session and you’re getting this as part of a £24 programme.  Is that what they call a no-brainer?
